His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday consented to attend the "Istiadat Akad Nikah Diraja" or the royal solemnisation of marriage vows between Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Hafizah Sururul Bolkiah and Pengiran Haji Muhammad Ruzaini bin Pengiran Dr Hj Mohd Yakub.
With the royal marriage solemnisation vows, which is an Islamic rite steeped in tradition, Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Hafizah Sururul Bolkiah is now officially married to Pengiran Haji Muhammad Ruzaini.
In the Malay and royal tradition, the wedding will only be complete after the "Istiadat Bersanding Pengantin Diraja" ceremony, which will be held this Sunday.
Also gracing the "Istiadat Akad Nikah Diraja" ceremony held at the Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Mosque in the capital were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince; HRH Prince Mohamed Bolkiah; HRH Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah; HRH Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah; HRH Prince Haji 'Abdul 'Azim; HRH Prince 'Abdul Malik and HRH Prince 'Abdul Mateen.
The solemnisation of marriage vows is an important part of the wedding ceremony. Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Hj Awg Salim conducted the Akad Nikah ritual.
Pengiran Haji Muhammad Ruzaini was dressed in traditional Malay attire affirming his acceptance of the 'Akad Nikah' or marriage solemnisation. Outside the mosque, cannons were fired 17 times to mark the conclusion of the ritual.
'Lafaz Taliq' was read by Pengiran Haji Muhammad Ruzaini who later signed the solemnisation form followed by Pehin Dato Hj Awg Salim. A doa selamat was read by the State Mufti, Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned.
During the "Lafaz Taliq', Pengiran Haji Muhammad Ruzaini said aloud in the presence of those present, including His Majesty and four witnesses comprising religious figureheads, that he will stay loyal and responsible for the wellbeing of his bride.
Pengiran Haji Muhammad Ruzaini later paid respects to His Majesty and other members of the royal family.
His Majesty and other members of the royal family later left the mosque followed by Pengiran Haji Muhammad Ruzaini and his entourage.
