KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s young Harimau Malaya team put up a stout performance against a flamboyant Manchester City side albeit a 3-1 defeat at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Monday.
Datuk K Rajagopal’s boys were able to hold their own against the Premier League champions in the first half, limiting the scoreline to just one goal.
But the visitors did not give the Malaysians time to settle down as play resumed, scoring twice inside the first 10 minutes.
As expected, Roberto Mancini’s side controlled the second half and entertained the 45,000 crowd with some typical premier league football.
City’s goals came from Sergio Aguero, Carlos Tevez and Adam Johnson. Azamuddin Akil replied in the 87th minute by collecting a through ball and beating a defender before pushing it pass the goalkeeper.
